How to Make It
Bake the Shortcake:
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 8-inch cake pan.
Mix dry ingredients; cut in butter until crumbly.
Whisk milk, egg, and vanilla, then combine with dry mix.
Spread in pan and bake for 18-20 minutes. Cool on a rack.
Prepare the Berries & Cream:
Toss strawberries with sugar and let sit for 30 minutes.
Whip cream with confectioners’ sugar and vanilla until fluffy.

Heat strawberry preserves with water until syrupy.
