The sky had turned dark quickly. One moment, little Donny the baby monkey was playing under the trees, and the next—BOOM! CRASH!—the rain came pouring down from the sky like a waterfall. Thunder roared, and lightning flashed, scaring all the jungle animals. Donny looked around for his mother, but she had gone to get food just before the storm started.
“Momma?” he called, but his tiny voice was lost in the sound of the rain.
Donny ran under a big leaf to hide, but it didn’t help much. The wind blew cold, and the rain soaked through his fur. He curled up in a little ball, shivering, his teeth chattering.
“Momma… where are you?” he whimpered, tears mixing with the raindrops on his cheeks.
Poor baby Donny was shaking, not just from the cold, but from fear and sadness. He missed his mother’s warm arms, her soft voice, and her gentle hugs. The jungle looked so big and scary now.
He slowly stood up and began to walk, calling out with every step. “Momma! Momma!”
His tiny feet splashed in the puddles, and his voice trembled. He passed by a bush, and just then—he heard a voice!
“Donny!”
He turned, and there she was—his mother, running through the trees, her eyes full of worry.
“Momma!” Donny cried and ran into her arms.
She wrapped him in a warm hug, rubbing his back to help him feel safe again. “I’m here, my baby. I’ll always come for you.”
Wrapped in his mother’s arms, Donny finally stopped shaking. The rain had passed, and so had the fear. All that mattered now was the love between them.
And in that moment, the jungle didn’t feel so cold anymore.
