Brazilian Tourist Found Dead After Tragic Fall from Volcano Cliff in Indonesia

In a heartbreaking end to a days-long search effort, Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins, 26, was found dead on Tuesday after falling from a cliff while hiking near the crater of Mount Rinjani, an active volcano on the Indonesian island of Lombok.

Marins, a publicist and pole-dancing enthusiast, had been trekking with a group of friends on Saturday morning when she tragically slipped and plummeted nearly 490 feet down the steep cliffside, according to Indonesian officials. By Monday, rescue teams reported she had slid even further—down more than 1,600 feet.

Immediately after her fall, Marins’ cries for help were reportedly heard, and drone footage confirmed she was still alive. However, repeated rescue attempts were hampered by dense fog, treacherous terrain, and poor weather conditions, preventing teams from reaching her in time.

Despite two determined attempts to access her location, the extreme environment around the volcano made progress impossible for days. Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency finally located her body after four days of persistent effort, the Brazilian government confirmed in a statement.

It remains unclear exactly when Marins died or whether her body has been recovered from the difficult-to-reach site.

Marins worked as a publicist in Brazil and frequently shared moments from her adventurous life on social media. Her family, devastated by the news, released a statement expressing their grief:

“Today the rescue team checked the location where Juliana Marins was. With much sadness, we have to report that she did not survive. We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of love, and support we have received.”

Roughly 50 people participated in the search operation, braving dangerous and unpredictable volcanic conditions in hopes of bringing her home.
